The inspiration for this window came from an email I
received from Bonnie, who requested if I would make a quilt set based on
this photograph,

it is of a stained glass piece that her deceased
father-in-law, Nick Sustich made for the windows of his family room.
Bonnie's husband, Dick, had the windows removed so that they could preserve
them. These windows are an amazing labour of love and a wonderful legacy to
leave behind.
Nick Sustich based his window on an American Native design
from New Mexico which have an incredible meaning,
This is an ancient sun symbol of a Native American
people called the Zia. The Zia believed that the giver of all good gave
them gifts in groups of four. These gifts are:
The four directions - north, east, south and west.
The four seasons - spring, summer, fall and winter.
The day - sunrise, noon, evening and night.
Life itself - childhood, youth, middle years and old age.
All of these are bound by a circle of life and love, without a beginning
or end.
