I have a Janome 300E embroidery machine, and the largest hoop is 200mm
long. I was determined to be able to utilise the longer panel that
was supplied in the 5x7 daisy quilt set, so that my blocks would be
larger. I also wanted to use 4 different fabrics to make my quilt.
This meant I had to reduce the size of the rectangular panels and also
the daisy square. I wanted to keep the width and only reduce the
length, thus giving me a large square.
I used Embird to reduce the designs.
I began by reducing the longest side panel to 200mm long.
Once I removed the satin stitch lines and the zigzag lines, I then
checked the measurements again and made sure that the design was
200x55 wide.
Once I was happy with that, I worked out how long the smaller side
panels were to be. I took off 110mm (the total of the 2 small
squares), from the 200mm length, which gave me a size of 120mm.
I reduced the side panels to this length, removed the zigzag and satin
stitches, then checked and resized to ensure it was 120x55mm.
The daisy squares were reduced to 120mm square in the same manner.
I did not reduce the small squares at all. I removed the zigzag and
satin stitch lines, then checked to ensure that they were 55x55mm
square, and adjusted accordingly.
Seeing I now have my GigaHoop (which is wider but not longer than the
B hoop), I can now enlarge the daisy border to 155mm wide and will
only need to do 2 per block.
If I were to do them on the standard B hoop for the Janome, I would
reduce them to 103.3mm and do 3 border panels per block.
This is the finished block :o) It is a touch over 12" or 310mm
square.
By my calculations, I will need 5 of these to go across my queen-size
bed. I've not yet worked out the length, but am thinking maybe 6
would do it.
Although the daisy square is quite small, I am happy with how this
turned out.
I hope this will help others that wish to make this quilt, but feel
they may be restricted if they have a smaller than 6x10 hoop .
